So guys, let's look at some of the most popular YouTubers as of current. Ricegum, WoahhVicky, SixNine, Etc.
So in other words, it seems like becoming a YouTuber is a pretty big deal nowadays for younger people. I remember when YouTube was just getting started as a website and there was not too much social media involved. Yeah, some of the big stars had websites and accounts but not too much content. Now it seems like Instagram + snapchat play a big role in making someone popular overnight.
But according to the NY Post, becoming a YouTuber is almost like selling your soul. You have to make viral content and compete against pretty much everyone for a spot on the site.
“At the end of the day, you’re selling your soul to viral content that involves a public prank that’s super crazy to see how the public reacts,” says Gatto, who is now a full-time student at Columbia University studying data science.
So in his own words, YouTube is becoming kind of like those schools that used to be good in the 70's and 80's but turned into a mess after all those apartments were built in the surrounding area. And according to my brother who saw the golden age of YouTube firsthand, "It used to be about having fun, creating a video every now and then, now it's become too serious"
